The construction of Phase 1, the 5-mile segment of Tangerine Road from Dove Mountain Blvd/Twin Peaks Road to La Cañada Drive, is underway and is anticipated to be complete in the summer of 2018. Tangerine Corridor Constructors (TCC) – a Granite Construction/Borderland Construction joint venture, is constructing the project from west to east.

Phase 1 Construction Area

Phase 1-A, the 2-mile segment from Dove Mountain Blvd/Twin Peaks to Thornydale Road is scheduled to be complete in the summer of 2017.Phase 1-B, the 3-mile segment from Thornydale Road to La Cañada Drive is on schedule to be complete in the summer of 2018.

Through the end of the project, the speed limit on Tangerine Road between Dove Mountain Blvd and La Cañada Drive will be reduced to ensure the safety of all. Residents and the traveling public can expect increased truck traffic, lane restrictions and temporary detours in the construction zones. Project Approach

The project team has chosen to utilize the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) approach to construction, which combines the efforts of the design engineering team, the owner and the contractor to work together to complete the improvements. This results in the roadway construction occurring earlier in the process than the more traditional design-bid-build approach, with contractor input on constructability. The Town of Marana has had extreme success utilizing the CMAR delivery method in the past on such projects as Twin Peaks Road, Linda Vista to Tangerine Road; Silverbell Road, Cortaro Road to Ina Road and Thornydale Road, CDO River to Orange Grove Road.

This is a project of the Regional Transportation Authority. The voter-approved, $2.1 billion RTA plan will be implemented through FY 2026. Details about the full plan are available at www.RTAmobility.com. The Regional Transportation Authority has a nine-member board with representatives from local, state and tribal governments. This project will be managed by The Town of Marana, The Town of Oro Valley, Pima County and the RTA.

A connecting road improvement project-

The Tangerine Road Corridor Project connects to another road improvement project underway on La Cholla Boulevard. Design is in progress for the La Cholla improvements, from Overton Road to Tangerine Road. Construction is not expected to begin until early 2018 and only if the necessary funding becomes available.
